Integrating CMS and CIFS: a Midgard's case
Often Intranet applications developed with Open Source content management systems and application frameworks lack integration with existing user management infrasturcture. This usually leads to duplication of effort to support several copies of user and group databases, each for particular project, and authentication information synchronization nightmare become real for support staff. If a company has existing CIFS network, one of solutions might be reuse of CIFS authentication subsystem, especially if clients are working from Microsoft Windows-based desktops. A single Sign-On feature is available to Intranet applications as well when client's browser supports it (Internet Explorer or Mozilla with additional component). This allows more natural integration of Open Source-based solutions into corporate networks and also allows to unify authorization and authentication management.
The talk discusses implementation details of such an integration solution using upcoming Samba 3.0 authentication framework and Midgard 1.4 engine and demonstrates a Single Sign-On feature for Aegir CMS.
